Boat Building Industry in Bilimora - A short description

Boat Building started way back before 350 to 400 years in western coast of India. Gujarat has history of boat building in the period of Mugals, British and Portugese. The traditional boat builders were known as "Wadia" in Gujarat.

Bilimora situated on the bank of river Ambica adjoining Arabian Sea about 5 Kilometeres. Bilimora had active port handling cargo. South Gujarat teak timber "Valsadi Teak" was very famous for boats and ship building.

British connected Dang Forest with Bilimora Port to Bilimora junction and narrow gauge railway was setup from vagoi to Bilimora Port.

Teak was brought to Bilimora Port having good craftsmanship and Boat Building. Many war ships, cargo crafts were built in Bilimora. Since then, our forefather joined boat building industry and owned a boat building yard more than 120 years. The yard has now entered into fourth generation.

We started from constructing traditional sailing Dhow, Sailing Boats, Fishing Boats, and gradually adopted advanced technology from time to time.

Now after more than 100 years, the yard has the capability to construct highly advanced boats, launches, yachts in wooden, plywood, steel, aluminium, fibreglass and composite materials to the requirements of customers with international standards.

The Generation started with Late Morar Wadia who with his acumen started the yard. Later, the yard was handled by able Late Narsinhdas Wadia. Currently the yard is achieving new heights by professional management of Shri Jayesh Wadia.

Our goal is to satisfy our clients to the fullest extent by providing them the boat they hope, the boat which seems to meet their requirements, according to their program, budget and aesthetic choice. Our goal is to provide stiff and strong, well insulated, durable, fatigue and shock-resistant, and little maintenance boats by choosing good quality raw material and standard manufacturing processes. All qualities that have appeared as being essential during our long sailing experience.
